Ready or Not, Here We Go.

I am a student ministry expert.  I have been working with students for over 15 years, and over that time Ranada and I have been involved in the lives of thousands of students, so we should have it down, right?  Well - this Sunday, October 30th, our son Brandon turns 13.  That's right, this week I become the parent of a teenager.  I know what you're thinking.  "There's no way that Ranada could be the parent of a teen.  Darrick looks like an old man, but Ranada?!"  Sadly, it's true.  And now we get to practice what we have preached since before he was born.  I get to test my theories on what teens, "really need," and find out what it takes to raise one of these teen-age creatures.  It should be a wild ride. With God's help, we'll give it our best.  I'm sure it will teach us a lot about what youth ministry really is.

Something else that's new in my life is this newsletter.  I have tried at times to generate newsletters for our regional youth leaders, but haven't hit it often.  They tend to take a lot of time and by the time I get them done, they are outdated.  So this e-version is a gift from God for me.  Each issue will have info. about what's happening in our region, resource ideas, and other useful information.  One thing that I would love to include would be stories about what is happening in the student ministries across our region.  Please keep me posted when significant things happen in your youth ministry.  Just email me darrick_young@yahoo.com (inlcude pics if you have them), and I will get the story out to the rest of our youth leaders.  If you have other ideas for things that would be useful to you in this format, let me know.  I'd love to hear them.

On your Team,

PS: I am keeping a blog online and I would love to get feedback from you.  I'll keep the topics flowing, you tell me what you think.  You can hit it at http://centralregionstudentministries.blogspot.com/

It's Not Too Late to Join Us!

Our annual youth leaders' retreat is coming up in a couple of weeks, but it's not too late to join us.  This is a great time for youth pastors and leaders to connect with other leaders in our region as well as get some resources that you can use in your church.  Our two-fold goal at this retreat is to EQUIP and ENCOURAGE you.  If you did not receive a brochure about the retreat, or have questions, please contact our office at:

RECKLESS

We are gearing up for Breakaway 2006!  Our theme is RECKLESS, and we are going to be challenging students with a couple of key thoughts: How God RECKLESSLY pursues them and how we are called to RECKLESSLY follow God and His plan for our lives.

Breakaway 2006 is happening February 16-18, 2006, in Independence, MO, at the Hilton Garden Inn.  If you want to check out the guests we have lined up or other Breakaway stuff, click the links below:

Recommended Resource: Youth Ministry Websites

One of the great things about doing student ministry today is the abundance of free ideas, resources, and tools that are available via the internet.  If you are looking for practical tools to use in ministry, try some of these sites (just click on the links to get there...)

http://www.simplyyouthministry.com This is Doug Field's site and the coolest thing about it that they give away new freebies every week.  Doug is the youth pastor @ Saddleback Church in California.

http://simplyjuniorhigh.simplyyouthministry.com This is from the Junior High Pastor @ Saddleback.

http://www.pastor2youth.com This is a website that's sole purpose is the exchange of free ideas and resources for youth pastors.  It is similar to the pastor-to-pastor website for Senior Pastors.

http://www.youthsource.com  Jeanne Mayo's site.  After 35+ years of student ministry, Jeanne loves to pour into youth leaders.  You will find lots of articles and encouragement here.

Found any great sites you want us to know about?  Email the link and we'll spread the word... centralregionyouth@yahoo.com
